A Detailed Guide to Home Gym Weights
Introduction
Weight training has become an everyday routine of many people's lifestyles today. It is associated with vast benefits; for example, its aids strength, endurance, weight loss, moods, posture, confidence, and general well-being.
Strength and weight training is a manageable and easy task due to the many types of gym weights available in the market today. Gym weights refer to the training load equipment you can utilize to perform several exercises, including frenetic workouts.
Knowing the best workout equipment and how to effectively use them can significantly improve your workout experience. This post discusses various gym apparatuses you can use at home while working out.
Effective home gym weights and other equipment to consider
Nowadays, you don't have to hit the gym to achieve your body fitness goals. You can still get that fire body’ at your home’s comfort using a few tools and a consistent, practical routine. Here are efficient gym tools you can procure for your home workout routine:
Benefits of exercising with free weights
Exercising using free weights and weight plate may seem daunting, but its advantages are worthwhile. Free weights are usually even more cost-effective, convenient, and performance effective compared to resistance machines.
Most fitness trainers suggest that including them in your workout routine can incredibly strengthen your muscles and burn fats. Some of the typical gym weights you can utilize at home are dumbbells, barbells, weight plates, kettlebells, and medicine balls.
All these weights have their unique merits, and you may need some more than others, depending on your goals and whether you want to increase or decrease body weight.
Dumbbells
A dumbbell refers to gym equipment made of a bar and loads at both ends. It’s an effective tool for joint-isolation workouts like chest flyers, bicep curls, and shoulder raises. You can also utilize them for compound exercises like bench presses and squats. They come in varying weights and sizes and the best ones are made from a cast iron inner.
If you aim to gain muscles and increase strength, a dumbbell weight set is versatile gym equipment you shouldn’t miss. Dumbbells are safer, intensify workouts, eliminates imbalances, increases motion range, allows easy and unrestrained movement, and more.
Weight Plates
Weight plates are another essential home gym weight suitable for several types of workouts. They come in varying designs and sizes, with the standard types being the Olympic, standard, and studio plates. They come in varying weights and sizes and the best ones are made from a cast iron inner.
You can use weight plates while doing exercises like plate push-ups, side bend, squat press, lateral raise, and halo. This exercise usually targets the back, abs, upper back, shoulders, biceps, triceps, chest, and arms.
Kettlebell
Kettlebells are made of cast iron and can weigh around 5-100 pounds. They have a handle which makes them relatively easy to use and grip. This equipment is helpful for various workouts, including full-body exercising plans.
They don’t require an additional tool or support to use them, just your willpower and strength. There's a kettlebell for everyone with diverse sizes available. All you should do is select the best one for your goals and lifting ability.
Kettlebells are excellent for athletic workouts and other unique movements you can't do with other free weights. You can use them to do goblet squats, shoulder halo, kettlebell swing, thruster, sumo squats, and many more.
Generally, this equipment is the best tool for people who aim to work out their shoulders, back, and legs. It helps build muscles and enhance the user's grip strength. Kettlebells can be an excellent option for quick reaction strength training.
Benefits of using free weights
Some of the merits of lifting weights are:
1. They improve performance when doing functional exercises.
2. They’re more efficient than machines since they’re not fixed, allowing movement in all directions
3. Since they target more muscles than resistance machines, free weights torch a lot of calories.
4. They increase strength more than workout machines since they trigger a higher hormonal response, determining how faster muscles rebuild and develop after training.
5. They take up less storage space.
6. They’re safer and less likely to cause injuries
7. They are the cheapest and best bang for the buck for strength training.
Six exercises using weight training
1. Cable machines
Cable machines are effective weight training tools consisting of a steel frame and load stack fixed with a cable attached to a handle. Almost all exercises you can handle with free weights are doable with a cable machine.
However, the weights are more versatile than resistance machines. This is because resistance machines only allow a specific movement when performing exercises, but free weights allow motion in all three planes.
Cable machines come in two main types, which are suitable for different kinds of workouts. Usually, you can find a single or a double-pulley cable machine. You should ensure you select a suitable cable training machine depending on your goals and the type of exercise you plan to do.
Like most gym equipment, you can use cable machines to perform very many exercises. Here are four basic workouts you can do with this tool:
2. Triceps pushdown
The best cable machine for this exercise is one with a rope handle. First, you’ll fasten the rope to the cable pulley, ensure your elbows are pushed to the sides. Then grab the rope using both hands, support your core and begin lowering your forearms until they’re fully stretched.
Return your arms to the initial position, then repeat the exercise several sets and reps depending on your difficulty level. You can go 3 sets each with about 10-15 reps.
3. Cable squat
This exercise is great if you want to work on your lats, glutes, and quads. First, stand arm’s distance away from the machine with your legs shoulder-width apart. Grab the handles using both hands while ensuring your chest is high and back straight.
Then start pulling the handles while raising your hips and knees until your legs are fully straight. During the squats, ensure your knees bends forward and the hips backward. While squatting, the legs should be parallel with the ground.
4. Cable lunges
For this exercise, grasp the lower handle of the machine with both hands, then stan straight with one leg behind the other. Brace yourself while steadily lunge down, then push back to the position you started. Do about 3- sets of 10-15 reps as you swap legs.
5. Chest press
For this exercise, you’ll use all the two cable handles. First, you should set a reasonable weight you can manage. Then with your back facing the cable machine, grab the handles by your trunk(chest) with the shoulders retracted.
Next, start pressing directly forward while squeezing your chest muscles together with your elbows slightly bent. Return to the initial starting position and repeat.
6. Resistance bands
As simple as they look, resistance bands are more efficient than you think. They’re effective for many types of exercises and are suitable for both males and females. These bands come in many sizes, colors, and quality.
Depending on your body goals, you can obtain more than one size of resistance bands. They're suitable for workouts like squats, hip abduction, biceps curl, flye, glute bridge, splitter, lateral walks, press-ups, and more.
Conclusion
Working from home has just been made simpler and effective with the above gym equipment and more. However, you need to ensure you know your body goals and the type of exercises you want to perform to get the most suitable home gym equipment. With good equipment and routine, you can easily attain your body goals.
